Day 2

Next morning we divided our team up and some went to check out the hospital to see if there were any supplies they needed urgently and what we could do to help them get them. I went on the other team that headed to a school that had been turned into a make shift donation center. The place was a mess, to put it mildly.

There were a whole lot of volunteers but they were a little lost and the poor lady that was in charge of the place had no clue what to do. We tried to organize it the best we could and sort through all the clothes and shoes, blankets, food, mattresses, sleeping bags etc.

A whole bunch of people were waiting outside since early trying to get some clothes, apparently they let some in and it was mayhem, the military was there trying to keep control of the place. What we did was go out and get a list of everything that they needed, shoe size, clothes size and for how many people and then we would go in there and sort through till we found the sizes and make bags for them.

People were very happy to receive the clothes, I guess they must have really needed them as some had to wait for quite a while, it was hard to find all the right sizes in the middle of that disaster.

We had to start heading back to Santiago that afternoon, we had heard that some people had taken 10 hours to get back to Santiago from Constitucion. We packed up our things, and headed home. On our way out we had heard of a little town called San Ramon that apparently was pretty bad off. While the actual town was not destroyed, they were unable to get much food, having no where to buy it from, and being on the outskirts there wasn't that much government help coming their way.
We didn't have that much left to give, we made bags with a little of everything and tried to get one to each family.

Once again, the coloring books and childrens toys were a hit.

Well, that was the end of that trip. We finally did make it home past midnight, we all hope to go back soon.

LY & hope you're doing well! Sammy & I are praying so much for you guys & your relief efforts. Thanks for making this blog, it's so inspiring to hear about everything that's being accomplished! When reading your blog I was reminded of the solidarity of the Chilean people & how idealistic they are. I have great memories witnessing there :)
Sending you all my love & prayers,
